Like most special purpose mailing lists we had an initial flurry and a
precipitous decline such that only spammers bother. If the interest
remains somehow in pursuing an OS/2 compatible operating system somehow
competing with eCS, then we can continue on this list. Personally while
I keep this one open I contribute mostly to the SCOUG (www.scoug.com)
scoug-programming mailing list, thus far spam free.

Yes, I believe that this Group is still needed!!

When something is relevant to read, Yes... Most messages are SPAM, and
get filtered out because I receive the Same message in other SPAMed
Yahoo groups.

At the very least, control of this Group should be obtained to Close it
down as a Vector of SPAM. I don't vote for Closing it Down, but this
would be the Responsible Thing to do, if osFree is to be abandoned..

> Speak up, if you want it to stay alive !

Make sure to assign co-owner/moderators to keep control when the Main
owner/moderator disappears.. Maybe a "Group Owner/Moderator
Association" (GOMA OS/2) should be formed to gather the "lost" OS/2
Groups and keep the SPAM Down.

I would like to keep this group alive.

I think the spam comes from one or two "members" so if the owner /
moderator kicks those members, the spam will be reduced.

I am reading the group - but didn't see anything useful reacently. So it
would be good, if someone would be in charge.

Yo All...

I think I sent a mail here by mistake, sorry about that.

Thanx to everyone for replying !

As far as I can see, you all (like me) want to group to
exist - as get "de-spammed".

Yahoo says, we should do an election here, to select
a new owner/moderator.

To be sure we have at least 1 candidate, I will step forward
and accept the job ;-)

As we naturally are a democratic group, any member can step
forward here too (that may unfortunately include some spammers
so watch out who you vote for ! )

That means, if you want the job, say it here in the group.
I'll send an updated list of candidates to the group
every time I see a new cadidate (daily).

After a period (how long time should that be ? A week ?) where I
will collect the names of all candidates, we will do the election.

If no other steps forward, we will still do the election, but
then it will look something like:

1. Keep osFree - insert Allan as owner.
2. Don't do anything.
3. Ask Yahoo to delete the group.

(I may add 2 and 3 even if we have several candidates...)

This makes sure, _I_ am not just trying to hijack the group.

After the election, I will ask Yahoo to evaluate it and the
discussions here - and then they will do as they see fit !

Mark said:

Sure is a good idea. I believe any owner can do that, so
this would be a task for whoever gets the job.
I'm sure (well hope) the elected owner will listen to people
on the list.

This procedure is generally how Yahoo told me, we should do it.

Any comments ?

Allan.

While not quite sure what you requested if other than someone to share
in the task of moderating membership in this forum, I will volunteer to
assist. Thus consider me a candidate.

How is an election set up??
How can I add myself as a Candidate?
How long before the Voting can start?
How long is the Voting Open?
How are the results tallied?

As we once had two such forums, freeos and osfree, both associated with
producing a compatible OS/2 replacement, what impact has eCS on this
discussion. Now we had two forums due to a difference of opinion on
approach. One group wanted to build it upon a microkernel designed to
eventually to replace not only OS/2 but possibly Linux and Windows as
well. The second group believed the easiest and shortest path lay in
building an API interface layer on Linux. Thus too little resources
broke itself into two too littler groups.

Now if the remaining members of this list don't have either of these as
principal interest, we need to decide what more little groups to create.
Personally I would like to pursue the microkernel, if for no other
reaseon than acquiring a detailed understanding of it and the approach.
I would like to pursue it to the point where we can have a consensus
on its viability, whether or not to pursue it as an approach.

Thus will others on this list take time to respond with their opinions?
