There must be some linux groups here at Yahoo Groups that can
help you. This is (or was) for the cloning or the creation of
a free version of OS/2 Warp (either 3 or 4). Would be (or would
have been) similar to eComStation but for free/open source
(http://www.ecomstation.com - an updated version of Warp ver 4
based on the kernel licenced from IBM).

I have tried to send an e-mail to everyone at the
http://www.osfree.org site but could not send it due
to an error (alot of not founds). Is it still being
worked on? I have sent an e-mail to kim of OS/2 World
(the e-mail is listed at the contact page of that site
but it would not work but I adapted it [deleted part of
it between the @ and os2world]).

osFree project seems to be stopped. CVS doesn't work. Really, I propose
to restart project. As host system I propose sourceforge.net or netlabs.

org. I have latest sources from CVS (also uploaded to hobbes). Also I
added (in draft) to source tree other sources. Some sources already
compiled well, some not.

As next steps in development we can do following:
1. Register project on sourceforge or netlabs
2. Put sources in CVS tree
3. Adopt some existing sources (like 4os2, regina-rexx, freeldr,
freedos commad line tools, *nix tcp/ip tools)
4. Continue developing of command-line tools

Any comments?

The latest source code files from the OSFree project
can be found at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu . The person
who posted it stated they thought it was a 'dead'
project. I am not a programmer but I thought it would
be neat to give it a try (or at least look at it).

Adrian Gschwend (of Netlabs) will have finished his holiday in 2 weeks
from now.
But I'm shure he would provide his CVS server.

How much is OSFree similar to this existing Netlabs project:

This is (most probably) my upload of sources. I have tested compilation
of sources with OpenWatcom 1.0. With small changes all works fine.

If I remember correctly, goal of os2tools project is to provide
additional tools. But goal of osFree (at first stage) was just cloning
of existing standard OS/2 command line tools. I consider os2tools
project can be moved to osFree project laterly, as standard part of
system.

Really, lot of side code can be just adopted for osFree project. As
examples: 4os2, regina-rexx, tcp/ip tools, freedos tools. Some code can
be used as base for other parts: TCP/IP stack (most probably, best
choice is *BSD stack), ORBit (as SOM replacement), and some other.

Unfortunately, I can't be developer of osFree project because I'm
working on lot of other things already (i.e. OpenSibyl one of many).

I found and uploaded the source code for
OSFree and FreePM to the files section of
this group. I put them there in case some
one wanted to use it as basis for their
operating system or just to work on them.
