The restarting of OSFree was announced in/at
http://www.os2world.com . If the word is spread that
it (OSFree) has been revived and being worked on,
perhaps others would help(?). It could include non-
programmers who could help in other ways (other than
programming).

I would like to learn more about programming. Would joining a project
like this be a good idea to help me learn, or would I just be getting in
the way of development? I assume everything is written in C, so I would
be starting from the bottom. My only experience is Rexx and various
forms of Basic.

To some, you might be 'just getting in the way'. This is a
complex program to start with. There are groups here at
Yahoo that could help with learning C or C++. One could
possibly look at the code as one learns programming and
learn from it which is what I plan to do (very new at
programming (hopeing to learn).

PS Have you heard of the REXX Language Association?
IIRC - they cover all platforms.

I was thinking along the lines of OSFree being in it's early stages
would make it less complicated at the moment & if I can learn quickly
enough I may be able to grow with it. You have a good idea there, just
downloading the code for study purposes. I am assuming the initial parts
will need a fair amount of knowledge and experience, being very low
level. Maybe I should hold out until it is functioning and help out with
some utilities instead. Can you recommend a particular group that can
help with C/C++? Would prefer one with OS/2 or eCS members.

There is a group of eCSers studying C++ using the text "C++ Primer Plus"
who are using the yahoo mailing list "CPlusPlusforeCSandOS2" if you are
interested. They are about four or five months into the book. I had to
drop out of the group because I was never able to get a C++ compiler to
install on my system, but I still participate in the mailing list. If
the Innotek GCC compiler ever makes it, and I'm not hopelessly too far
behind, I'll try to catch up with them.

Have you tried http://www.openwatcom.org/ ? It installed fine on my eCS 1.0.

One can download it from the site or buy it on a cd-rom.
It installed quite well on my computer.

I also heard that the GCC was updated.

It installed fine on my eCS 1.0 also. But after I installed 1.1, I was
redoing the install in that system and using the same installation directory
where it was in 1.0, when I got a CRC error, hosing both installations and
have never been able to recover it in either 1.0 or 1.1. I had several
people helping me on the newsgroups, but was never able to resolve this
problem.

Every few days I check out Innotek's site to see if their distribution of
GCC is ready.

I see you joined the C++ mailing list. I moderate that list and had to
approve your first post.
