Messages
Each of the applications within the IRE
displays messages from time to time to aid you in the operations
you are trying to perform. Messages are generally the result of
an illegal operation, that is, an operation where an
application limit has been reached. A message may also appear for
informational purposes..
- Error Messages
- The following messages result from an
illegal operation.
-
- A problem occurred trying to
decode the resource information. 'filename' might not be
a valid OS/2 resource file.
- When importing a resource file that you
have specified as an OS/2 resource, a problem occurred
during the decoding of the information. Check to make
sure that the file you specified is a true OS/2 binary
resource file.
-
- A problem occurred trying to
decode the resource information. 'filename' might not be
a valid Windows 3.1 resource file.
- When importing a resource file that you
have specified as a Windows 3.1 resource, a problem
occurred during the decoding of the information. Check to
make sure that the file you specified is a true Windows
3.1 binary resource file.
-
- A problem occurred trying to
decode the resource information. 'filename' might not be
a valid Windows NT resource file.

have specified as a Windows NT resource, a problem
occurred during the decoding of the information. Check to
make sure that the file that you specified is a true
Windows NT binary resource file.
-
- Accelerator table specified for
window but no accelerators defined!
- The window you have created specified the
association of an accelerator table, but you have not
defined any accelerators. The application will not run
without a properly defined accelerator table. Therefore,
either remove the accelerator-table association in the Window/Dialog Styles dialog box or add an accelerator.
-
- Action Bar menu must be selected!
- To relate a menu item to its parent, you
must select the action-bar item that the menu item
belongs to.
-
- Another control using ID symbol!
- Within the dialog box or window you are
working on, another control is using the ID symbol that
you entered or selected. For proper referencing of the
controls, each control should have a unique ID symbol and
value unless the control is a non-interactive control,
such as static text, group boxes, bitmaps, or icons.
-
- Another control using ID value!
- Within the dialog box or window you are
working on, another control is using the ID value that
you entered. For proper referencing of the controls, each
control should have a unique ID value unless the control
is a non-interactive control such as static text, group
boxes, bitmaps, or icons.
-
- Association name must be entered!
- When defining an association-table item,
you must provide an association name.
-
- Basename must be entered!
- When creating a new design, you must enter
the base name under which the design will be known.
-
- Cannot find :euserdoc. within IPF file.
- During the scanning phase of the IPF file
save, the :euserdoc. tag could not be found. This tag is
used to mark the end of the IPF file and the location
where missing help panels are to be placed. The missing
panel information will not be written because the tag is
missing and the file could be corrupted.
-
- Cannot find notebook page parent 'id'.
Converting to normal dialog box.
- The notebook-page parent could not be
found, thereby allowing the notebook page to be properly
sized. Because the parent is missing, the notebook page
is automatically converted to a dialog box without any
control information being lost.
-
- Cannot load required Integrated
Resource Editor DLL 'filename.DLL' Exiting Integrated
Resource Editor
- A dynamic-link library (DLL) required by
the IRE could not be opened. You should locate the
required DLL on the distribution diskettes or CD-ROM and
copy it to the directory containing your other DLLs.
-
- Cannot select disabled type!! Select
only a valid type.
- One of the disabled (halftone) images
within the New
Dialog/Window dialog was
selected. Since the item is halftone, it is not available
as an option. You must select an item that is not
halftone.
-
- Class name must be entered!
- You must enter the class name for the
user-defined temporary control that you are creating.
Because these controls are not part of the Presentation
Manager, the name must be registered just like a window
is, if the control is to be created properly.
-
- Could not create .DFM file.
- An error occurred in trying to save the
.DFM file. You should check to make sure that there is
enough room on your disk to save the information.
-
- Could not create pop-up menu window!
- An error occurred in trying to create the
pop-up menu window. You should check to make sure that
you are not running too many applications that require a
great number of Presentation Manager resources.
-
- Could not find Block End in 'filename'!
- When trying to analyze the existing file
to determine any differences between the information
contained in memory and the file, IRE determined that the
file contained an imbalance with the set of braces ({})
or BEGIN and END statements. Because of this imbalance,
the IRE does not attempt to generate any further resource
script statements.
-
- Could not load pop-up menu template!
- An error occurred in trying to load the
pop-up menu template from one of the IRE resource DLLs.
Make sure that the LIBPATH variable contains the path to
the DLLs of the IRE.
-
- Could not open dialog font metrics
file: 'filename'
- The selected .DFM file could not be
opened. Check to make sure that it is present and that it
is not a sharing violation.
-
- CUA Non-Compliance: Action Bar text is
not a single word!
- The IBM CUA requirements state that
action-bar items should be a single word. You can click
on the Cancel or the OK push
buttons

first word of a control should be capitalized unless it
is a proper noun. You can click on the Cancel or the OK push
buttons. The control can be a button, group box, static
text, action bar, or submenu.
-
- CUA Non-Compliance: Space between Push
Button text and ellipsis (...)!
- IBM CUA requirements state that push
buttons which invoke another dialog box should use the
ellipsis (...) denotation and contain no spaces between
the push-button text and the ellipsis. You can click on
the Cancel or the OK push
buttons.
-
- Description must be completed.
- To be compatible with the design library,
the description of the window or dialog box being created
or edited must be entered. Because the design
library allows similar IDs to be used for a designed
window or dialog box, the description is used to select
the desired window or dialog box.
-
- Design file requested is for a later
version of the Integrated Resource Editor! This version
of the Integrated Resource Editor is not compatible with
the design file and cannot read it!
- You have attempted to read a later version
design file into the IRE and cannot. Use the correct
version of the IRE or edit the design file.
-
- Duplicate description entered!
- The description you have entered for the
window or dialog box has been entered for another window
or dialog box. Enter a unique description.
-
- Duplicate filename entered!
- When entering or editing a file name, make
sure that the correct path and file name are being used.
-
- Dynamic-Link Library not found!
- When entering or editing the name of a
custom control library, make sure that the correct path
and file name are being used. You cannot register the
control library with IRE if it cannot find the actual
DLL.
-
- Edit information limit reached! Save
project design to reset list.
- The internal limit for deletion edit
information has been reached. The list size is 8128
items. You must save the current design information to
clear the list for reuse.
-
- Error saving design file 'filename'.
File has been saved as temporary file 'tempfile'.
- An error was detected while saving the
current design file. The original design file is still
intact, with the new design information saved to the
temporary file denoted in the message. The error is
consistent; you might be requested to submit the file to
your technical service representative.
-
- Example control creation failed!
- The example control could not be created
for some reason. If the control is part of a PMCX library
that you have constructed, check to make sure that the
control is operating properly.
-
- Example too large to show!
- The values you entered for the default
size of the control are too large to be displayed in the
example area. The IRE fits the control into the example
area to allow you to view it, but will use the actual,
defined default size when creating the control when you
add it to a window or dialog box.
-
- 'filename.DLL' could not be loaded.
- The PMCX dynamic-link library that you
have selected was not found or it was damaged. Check the
IRE Configuration dialog box and ensure that the correct
path for the custom control was entered.
-
- filename not saved completely because
number of bytes to write does not equal that written!
- An error was detected while saving the
design file. The number of bytes that was supposed to be
written does not equal the number of bytes that the file
system has reported writing. If the problem is
persistent, you might want to submit the problem design
file and report the circumstances to your technical
service representative.
-
- 'filename' not saved completely since
number of bytes to write does not equal that written!!
- During the write of a file, it was
determined that the amount of data that was to be written
to disk did not equal the actual amount written. There
may be a problem in writing to the disk. You may want to
try saving the file to a different drive if possible.
-
- 'filename' is read only! Cannot save
the design.
- You have attempted to save a design file
that is marked read-only. Change the read-only status of
the design file before trying to save the it again.
Alternately, you can save the design file under a
different name.
-
- 'filename' not saved completely because
'Drive X:' is full!
- An error was detected while writing the
design file. A check by the file-save routines has
determined that the problem might be caused by
insufficient room remaining on the drive where the file
was to be saved. If this is the case, try making room on
the drive, or save the file to another drive.
-
- 'function' function not found in
'filename' DLL.
- The function in the PMCX dynamic-link
library that you have selected was not found. If you
created the PMCX library yourself, make sure that the
function was exported through the definitions file. If
the function is from a vendor, contact the vendor
directly to report the problem.
-

help-table item you are defining, you must refer to a
defined help table. Help-table items belong to a help
table.
-
- ID value cannot be zero!
- The ID value for a window, control, and
dialog box must be in the range of 1 to 65535, or 0x0001
to 0xFFFF.
-
- ID value not given!
- You cannot create a control without an ID
value. Presentation Manager uses the control ID to
internally identify each of the different controls within
a window or dialog box. You use the symbol ID to aid you
in describing the actual control in both the resource
script and source files.
-
- Include symbol limit reached. Cannot
add new include symbol
- The total number of include symbols
(including the predefined OS/2 symbols used within the
IRE) is 10240.
-
- Internal Error: URE1010: NULL String
- An internal error has been detected within
the IRE. This is the result of a string being recorded
and its pointer somehow ending up as a NULL pointer.
Please save the resulting temporary file and report the
error to your technical service representative.
-
- Invalid ID symbol!
- The ID symbol that you have entered
contains an invalid character. The only valid characters
are:
- a-z
- A-Z
- 0-9
- _
The symbol cannot begin with a number
and cannot contain any spaces in it.
