ICONV Messages
The messages issued by the ICONV utility have
the following format:
filename.ext(line:col): ss EDCnnnn: text
filename.ext File name (with extension) where the error occurred
line Line where the error occurred
col Column where the error occurred
ss Severity of the error: Warning, Error, or Severe error
EDCnnnn Error message number
text Message text, including substitution variables

Severity: Error
Explanation: The /f option is required, but has
not been specified. The file has not been converted.
User Response: Rerun the ICONV utility specifying
the input code set with the /f option.

- /t option has not been specified
Severity: Error
Explanation: The /t option is required, but has
not been specified. The file has not been converted.
User Response: Rerun the ICONV utility specifying
the output code set with the /t option.
- EDC5482
- Cannot open converter from fromcode to
tocode
Severity: Error
Explanation: The ICONV utility was unable to
locate the conversion routine from fromcode to tocode,
and has not converted the file.
User Response: Check the fromcode and tocode
specified with the /f and /t options to ensure they
are correct.
- EDC5483
- Cannot open input file
Severity: Error
Explanation: The ICONV utility was unable to open
the input file and has not converted the file.
User Response: Check that the correct file name
has been specified and rerun the ICONV utility.
- EDC5484
- Invalid character found
Severity: Error
Explanation: An invalid character was detected in
the input file, and could not be converted. The file is
converted up to the error.
User Response: Correct the invalid character in
the input file, or specify different input and output
code sets.
- EDC5485
- Truncated character found
Severity: Error
Explanation: The end of the file has been reached
and a truncated multibyte character was detected. The
last character has not been converted.
User Response: Correct the invalid character in
the input file, or specify different input and output
code sets.
- EDC5486
- Unable to allocate enough memory
Severity: Error
Explanation: The ICONV utility was unable to
allocate buffers for use when converting the file. The
file has not been converted.
User Response: Rerun the ICONV utility with more
memory.
- EDC5487
- I/O error on file filename
Severity: Error
Explanation: An input or output error was detected
with the filename. The file is converted up to the
record in error.
User Response: Correct the cause of the
input/output error and rerun the iconv utility.
- EDC5488
- Usage: iconv [/f fromcode] [/t
tocode] filename
Severity: Error
Explanation: One of the options specified was not
valid or a valid option was specified with an invalid
value.
User Response: Rerun the ICONV utility with the
correct option.
