| OS/2 | Windows | Explanation |
| SS_AUTOSIZE | - | Allows automatic sizing of the static based on its text. The cx and cy components of the size are set to -1 (OS/2 Version 2.x and above). |
| SS_BITMAP | SS_BITMAP | Draws a bitmap. The resource ID for the bitmap resource is determined in the same way as for the SS_ICON style. The bitmap resource should be in the current application resource file. |
| SS_BKGNDFRAME | SS_WHITEFRAME | Creates a box whose frame has the background colour. |
| SS_BKGNDRECT | SS_WHITERECT | Creates a rectangle filled with the background colour. |
| SS_FGNDFRAME | SS_BLACKFRAME | Creates a box whose frame has the foreground colour. |
| SS_FGNDRECT | SS_BLACKRECT | Creates a rectangle filled with the foreground colour. |
| SS_GROUPBOX | - | Creates a box whose upper left corner contains control text. This option is useful for enclosing groups of similar controls such as radio buttons or check boxes in a box. |
| SS_HALFTONEFRAME | SS_GRAYFRAME | Creates a box whose frame has halftone shading. |
| SS_HALFTONERECT | SS_GRAYRECT | Creates a rectangle filled with halftone shading. |
| SS_ICON | SS_ICON | Creates an icon. The text of the control is interpreted as the resource ID of the icon. The bytes that make up the text can be interpreted as numeric values or as ASCII representations of numbers, depending on the value of the first byte. If the first byte is the # character, the remaining text is assumed to be an ASCII decimal representation of the icon resource ID. If the first byte of the text is 0xFF, the second byte is the low byte of the resource ID and the third byte is the high byte of the resource ID. |
| SS_SYSICON | - | Creates a system pointer icon. The ID of the icon is taken from the control text, as in the SS_ICON style. To display this icon, the system calls the WinQuerySysPointer function with the specified ID. |
| SS_TEXT | - | Creates a box with formatted text. Various formatting options can be combined with this style to produce formatted text in the boundaries of the control. The formatting option flags are the same as those used for the WinDrawText function. |
| - | SS_CENTER | Creates a box with text centered in it. Words that extend beyond the right edge of the box are automatically wrapped to the beginning of the next line. |
| - | SS_LEFT | Creates a box with text justified on the left edge of the box. Words that extend beyond the right edge of the box are automatically wrapped to the beginning of the next line. |
| - | SS_LEFTNOWORDWRAP | Creates a box with text justified on the left edge of the box, with any tab characters expanded and words beyond the right edge of the box not wrapping to the beginning of the next line. |
| - | SS_NOPREFIX | Prevents the ampersand character (&) from being interpreted as an accelerator prefix character. |
| - | SS_RIGHT | Creates a box with text justified on the right edge of the box. Words that extend beyond the right edge of the box are automatically wrapped to the beginning of the next line. |
| - | SS_SIMPLE | Creates a single-line box of text justified on the left edge of the box. |
| - | SS_USERITEM | Creates a user-defined static item. |
