IRE Control Extensions

The IRE introduces a mechanism that allows you to design and create custom controls similar to the controls found within Presentation Manager/Windows that can be accessed within your application. It is called the Control Extensions (PMCX).

PMCX has been designed such that the controls created can be accessed through the IRE similar to a normal Presentation Manager/Windows control so you can view the final control as it would appear in the application you are designing. It also allows the control to be defined in terms of its style, text, and any other related information similar to the other controls within the IRE.

Presentation Manager/Windows allows custom or user-defined controls to be included within dialogs. PMCX uses this feature to allow you to create controls that are not found within the default Presentation Manager environment. In reality, a custom control is similar to any of the windows that are created for an application.

Presentation Manager/Windows also provides a mechanism for run-time binding of libraries, namely, dynamic-link libraries. PMCX uses this mechanism to allow the custom control to be accessible to many applications that use it, including the IRE.
