I came across this page (http://www.falvotech.com/projects/os3.php)
that made me smile a bit. I'm so glad someone is thinking on this and
using L4 (pistachio hopefully) for it. I believe that kernel is good
enough to do the job. I hope the plan is to go slow but strong. The
Haiku project is taking sometime but as they come out of the kernel
space they are getting more help to write subsystems.
We have to remember that we have a deadline and without the source
code Serenity Systems can do so much and that may be not enough.

There is a project to clone the presentation manager.
It is FreePM. It is at http://frepm.sourceforge.net
( http://sourceforge.net/projects/frepm ?).

Hi,
Don't forget the file system that MS owns all or part of. HPFS was
mostly developed by Microsoft; in fact NTFS is just a slightly modified
HPFS. LAN Manager is jointly owned also. I have a book about programming
for Microsoft LAN Manager that was published by Microsoft Press.

FWIW, I noticed that HPFS386.IFS from 2002.08.29 contains a copyright
notice by IBM dated May 6 16:25:28 2002, whereas the edition of HPFS.IFS
of 2000.10.08 has none and is called the "IBM HPFS Installable File
System" with no mention of Microsoft within either file. It would
appear that both companies have the rights to the original code for
HPFS.IFS and the rights to any subsequent changes would belong
exclusively to the changer, at least since 2002 and likely from the date
of the cessation of their joint venture.

No, HPFS and NTFS are very different, and nothing is similar between the
two. NTFS is a transaction based FS using clusters to organise sectors.
HPFS, on the other hand, has no transaction or journal capability,
starts writes from the middle of the disk, and does NOT used any cluster
algorithm (organised via physical 512 bytes sectors).

S,
Perhaps you are thinking of NTFS 3 in XP. The original NTFS was almost
an exact clone of HPFS. In fact WinNT/2K will report HPFS partitions as
corrupted NTFS partitions since a only few bytes are really different
and the original NTFS was just a slightly altered HPFS. I know very
little of NTFS past the original version since I use Win2K/XP as little
as I possibly can...

The port of DosBox v0.63 to OS/2 has been finished and can be downloaded
at http://www.joschs-robotics.de/dosbox/ as installable WPI files. You
will need WarpIn to install these files, obtainable at
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/warpin/warpin-1-0-6.exe
In case you didn't know, DosBox is a DOS emulator, available for Linux,
Windows, BeOS, MacOS X and now OS/2! Its homepage can be found at
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net The main focus of DosBox is making classic
DOS-based games available on modern platforms. If you have some old gem
that doesn't run properly under OS/2, have a look at the list of
supported games at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php to see if
it is supported.
More information about DosBox/2 can be found at
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/DOSBox_Port. Please post bug reports
specific to the OS/2 version there under "Issues" or contact the porter
directly at joschsDESPAM@.... Please include a rough
